Science Curriculum Inc.
SCI is an educational publishing company dedicated to creating high-quality middle school and high school science programs. Our textbooks are recognized leaders in experimentally-based, hands-on physical science instruction. In our programs, students learn by doing science experiments, compiling data, discussing results, and drawing conclusions based on their experimental data.
Over 15-million middle and high school students have used Introductory Physical Science since it was introduced. The 9th Edition of IPS (2010) incorporates new chapters, as well as new features and an updated presentation. This new edition holds to tested and proven IPS principles and the belief that science is best learned by inquiry.
IPS is our primary text for the teaching of physical science. It is the recognized leader in providing real, inquiry-based labs that work! Three editions of IPS are currently available - the 7th, 8th, and 9th. In each edition, a coherent story line (based on students' experimental results) flows through the text, making it much more than the collection of isolated chapters or units typically found in other textbooks.
FM&E introduces students to forms of energy in a more relevant way than does the traditional approach which focuses primarily on mechanical work. FM&E examines different forms of energy and transformations from one form to another. The result is that students build a body of evidence for the concept of conservation of energy.
Teacher Guides, Assessment Packages, and Software
In addition to our textbooks, SCI offers a Teacher's Guide and Resource Book and Assessment Package for each program. KaleidaGraph graphing software is available for use by students and teachers, and Diagnostic Analysis software can help the teacher analyze results of multiple-choice tests.
SCI offers a variety of teacher workshops each summer for both the IPS and FM&E programs.
Each week-long workshop provides two semester-hours of graduate credit from Colorado School of Mines.
