SCI National
Summer Workshops
Golden, Colorado
(printable pdf application)
The SCI 2010
National Summer Workshops will be offered at the Colorado School
of Mines, Golden, Colorado. The three IPS workshop options run July 25-30 and August 1-6, 2010.
Each workshop runs through the end of the day on Friday, so travel arrangements should be made accordingly.
Instruction at the workshop is hands-on, in sections of up to 20 participants. Instruction will take place
primarily in the laboratory and focus on experiments, pre- and post-lab discussions, reading sections
and problems. Participants are encouraged
to prepare questions that address content (text and problems) and methodology.
The hands-on activities also include use of the Teacher’s Guide
and Resource Book, the Assessment Package, and Diagnostic Analysis
software for the analysis of multiple choice tests. Instructors will be available
for individual assistance.
Graden Kirksey, Peter Gendel, and Bob Stair-co-authors of the Ninth Edition of IPS-will lead the
workshops.
Colorado School of Mines is located in picturesque Golden, just
20 minutes west of Denver, at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Participants
stay on campus in graduate student apartments, which offer air-conditioned, suite-style
dormitory accommodations with kitchens. Workshop classes are held in an informal setting
in Alderson and Berthoud Halls. Local recreational facilities are available (for a daily fee)
for use by all participants.
The 5% credit for purchases
of IPS copyrighted materials made directly from SCI since May 31, 2007 may be applied
toward the tuition. The workshop cost and expectations of participants
are the same whether or not credit is requested.
