About the Authors
The IPS authors are an experienced team, each of whom brings
important contributions from physics, chemistry, science teaching
and science education to the development and implementation process.
Uri Haber-Schaim, the project director and senior author
since 1963, has a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Chicago.
He has been active in research, a variety of curriculum development
projects and teaching IPS institutes for many years.
Reed Cutting retired after 38 years as a science teacher
at Marblehead (MA) High School. He has been an active IPS
teacher, workshop instructor and writer for more than 30 years.
He has a B.A. from Wesleyan and an M.A. from Colgate University.
H. Graden Kirksey, professor of chemistry at the University
of Memphis, has a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Auburn University
and has been an IPS co-author and workshop instructor since
1970.
Harold Pratt, formerly science coordinator in the Jefferson
County (CO) Public Schools for 28 years, was on the original development
team. He directed one of the first pilot centers and has supported
the implementation of IPS since then. From 1991 to 1994 he
was a member of the development team for the National Science Education
Standards at the National Research Council. He has a B.A. from Phillips
University and an M.A.T. from Brown University.
